Friends of Clam Lake Press Release
For Immediate Release - September 14, 2007
At the September 13 Helena Township Board of Trustees meeting, Tom Frey, President of the
Friends of Clam Lake, presented a proposed "Public Access and Mooring Ordinance" to the Board for their consideration.
Mr. Frey stated, "With approval from the Board, Helena Township can join four other local townships who have already
taken this step to protect and conserve the Chain-of-Lakes from pollution, destruction and impairment." The ordinance
is identical to those passed in these other townships and has the backing of the Antrim Count Sheriff. Mr. Frey
added, "The Sheriff has agreed to enforce this ordinance but needs to ensure that all rules and regulations are the same
for all involved townships on each lake. With Helena Township's approval, Clam Lake, Lake Bellaire and the Grass
River will be totally covered." It is the intent of the Friends of Clam Lake to work with other lake
organizations and townships so that all of the Chain-of-Lakes has the same protection. A copy of the proposed
ordinance is available on the group's website.
The Friends of Clam Lake (FoCL) supports the public
use of our lake resources and the growth of tourism and business in the state of Michigan, as long as this is done in a safe
and legal setting. Further information and resources may be found at the group's website: www.friendsofclamlake.com.
